Stopa’s bar membership file is filled with dozens of horrifying complaints from elderly Floridians. Dozens of former clients allege Mark Stopa betrayed their trust and accuse him of stealing their money and homes. One woman even claims Mark Stopa stole candy from her granddaughter in a stroller!
To this day, Mark Stopa has still refused to accept responsibility for his crimes and misconduct. Instead, choosing to blame it on other people and playing the victim.

However, in this article, we’ll be exploring how Stopa ripped off his elderly client Alan Maiden.
Meet Alan Maiden! Another Mark Stopa Victim
In 2011, Alan Maiden found himself in financial trouble. The now-defunct Aurora Bank FSB (now Nationsatar aka Mr. Cooper) was foreclosing on his home in Sarasota, FL.
Initially, Maiden tried to fend off Aurora as a pro-se litigant for 3 years.
However, fighting the foreclosure soon became to overwhelming. So, he hired the the self-proclaimed GOAT foreclosure defense attorney Mark Stopa. At the time, Stopa had billboards plastered all over Tampa Bay.
Maiden hired Stopa in 2014. Afterwards, Stopa filed a notice of appearance. However, it appears that’s all Stopa did on the file. Like many of his clients, Maiden claims Stopa refused to speak to him after Stopa cashed his check.
In May 2018, Maiden had a mediation with Nationstar’s lawyers in which Stopa never showed up for. At the mediation and because of Stopa’s absenteeism, Maiden negotiated a Cash-For-Keys deal from Nationstar. As part of the deal, he agreed to be out of the house by September 5, 2018 in exchange for a Cash-For-Keys check for $10,500.
Stopa Steals $9,000 From His Client
In September 2018, the property transferred to Nationstar. Alan Maiden waited and waited for the check for months.
In late autumn, he discovered Nationstar had cut a check to Stopa’s law firm for $10,500.
According to Maiden’s bar complaint (Florida Bar File No. 2019-10,264) which you can read below, the Stopa victim believed the money would be forwarded to him by Stopa.
Maiden also stated in his bar complaint that he only received $1500 of the $10,500 from Stopa.
Stopa Was Known for Stealing Client Settlement Funds
Once money came into Stopa’s law firm, it never came out. Stopa was notorious for making up bullshit fees and stories as to why he should capture client settlement funds. Stopa stole Maiden’s settlement money and stopped communicating. For months, Maiden tried to get his money from Stopa’s law firm. He even tried contacting Richard Mockler. You may remember him, Stopa bamboozled Mockler into buying the firm 2 weeks before FDLE raided the office.
In 2018, Maiden wanted his money back. So, he filed a complaint with the Florida Bar.

It would explain why the family moved around so much (to hide the horrible secret) when Stopa was a boy and why Stopa is so mentally deficient and suffers from mental health and anger issues. It may also explain why he has unequal, down-syndrome like body proportions and suffers from a very rare genetic condition hermaphroditic penile agenesis where he is part male and part female and has no phallus.
